Living What We Believe: A 4-Week Journey Through the UMC Social Principles
At SALT United Methodist Community, we believe faith isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we live. This fall, we’re diving into a four-week exploration of the United Methodist Church’s Social Principles, a set of statements that help
us understand how our faith speaks to real-world issues: justice, creation, community, and human dignity.
These principles aren’t rules—they’re a reflection of who we strive to be as followers of Jesus in a complex world. They remind us that holiness is never isolated; as John Wesley said, “There is no holiness but social holiness.”
Each week we’ll gather for sermonic conversations—a style of worship that invites everyone to engage, question, and share. Instead of one voice preaching, we’ll learn from each other as we reflect on how these principles shape our lives together.
Week 1: The Introduction, Preface, and Preamble — Why the Social Principles matter
Week 2: The Community of All Creation — Caring for God’s world
Week 3: The Nurturing Community — Living with love and respect for all
Week 4: The Social Community — Seeking justice, peace, and equality
Join us as we ask: What does it look like to live what we believe? How do we embody grace, justice, and compassion as the people called Methodist?
